The Defence Forces Institute of Health Sciences (DFIHS) has graduated 190 students in nursing and midwifery, adding to Uganda’s growing pool of skilled healthcare professionals.
The graduates completed about two and a half years of intensive academic and practical training, earning diplomas that qualify them to serve in both military and civilian health facilities. DFIHS, which operates under the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), is a key institution in training medical personnel to support national healthcare delivery.

Officials at the ceremony emphasized the need for discipline, professionalism, and compassion in the health sector. They urged the graduates to uphold high standards as they take on roles in hospitals, health centres, and field operations across the country.
The development comes as Uganda continues to strengthen its health system, particularly in maternal and community healthcare. The addition of the newly trained nurses and midwives is expected to ease pressure on existing services and improve access to care, especially in underserved communities.

DFIHS continues to play a vital role in addressing gaps in healthcare staffing by producing competent professionals capable of working in diverse and demanding environments.
The graduates now begin their professional journey with a call to serve with integrity, dedication, and a strong commitment to national service.
