Kampala, Uganda – The Iteso Cultural Leadership, led by His Royal Highness Emorimor Papa Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, over the weekend paid a courtesy visit to former Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among at her residence in Nakasero.
The visit was intended to check on the former Speaker’s health and offer solidarity amid growing public concern following reports about her condition.
Speaking after the meeting, the Emorimor said he was encouraged by Among’s recovery, revealing that she is recuperating from exhaustion after a demanding political campaign period.
“We found her in good spirits and steadily recovering. We encourage the public to remain calm and continue praying for her as she regains her strength,” the Emorimor said.
The cultural leader dismissed widespread speculation surrounding Among’s health, emphasizing that although she is physically exhausted, she is making steady progress.
During the visit, the Teso cultural leaders also praised Among’s husband, Budiope East Member of Parliament Eng. Moses Magogo, for his unwavering support throughout the difficult period.
The delegation described Magogo as “the best Amuran“—an Ateso term signifying an exemplary son-in-law or husband—commending his commitment to standing by his wife despite the challenges she is facing.
The visit follows days of speculation that Among had been battling serious health complications, including swollen legs and a suspected blood clot that reportedly affected her mobility. The reports sparked widespread concern among political leaders and members of the public, with several calling for her to receive specialized medical care.
Among those who publicly expressed concern was Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, who urged authorities to allow the former Speaker access to her personal doctors and specialized treatment. Other visitors to her Nakasero residence have similarly indicated that she has largely remained within her home as she continues to recover.
Beyond checking on Among’s wellbeing, the Emorimor revealed that the Teso Cultural Institution is seeking an audience with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to discuss matters affecting the Teso sub-region, as well as concerns arising from recent developments involving the former Speaker.
The visit comes as Among remains under investigation over allegations of corruption and illicit enrichment, matters that have continued to attract significant public and political attention. Government has yet to issue an official statement regarding her health or any restrictions on her movement.
The Teso Cultural Leadership reaffirmed its support for the former Speaker and expressed optimism that she will make a full recovery.
