Police in Hoima have recovered a firearm that was stolen from a private security guard attached to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) offices, days after the guard was attacked by unknown assailants.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the incident occurred on February 20, 2026, when the security guard, identified as Turyatemba Josam, was reportedly ambushed while on duty. During the attack, the suspects overpowered him and made off with his firearm, raising concerns about the safety of private security personnel and the potential risk posed by the stolen weapon.
Police launched an immediate investigation and intensified search operations within Hoima and surrounding areas. Their efforts paid off when the gun was recovered on February 23, 2026, near Best of the Best Washing Bay along the Hoima–Kampala Road. Authorities believe the suspects may have abandoned the weapon as pressure from security forces increased.
Albertine North and South Regional Police Spokesperson, Allan Hakiiza, confirmed the recovery and emphasized the importance of strengthening security measures among private security companies. He urged firms to deploy more than one guard at sensitive installations to reduce vulnerability and improve response capacity in case of attacks.
SP Hakiiza also reassured the public that police are actively pursuing the suspects involved in the robbery, noting that investigations are ongoing and expressing confidence that the culprits will be apprehended and brought to justice.
The recovery of the firearm has been welcomed as a positive development as authorities continue efforts to ensure public safety and prevent criminal elements from accessing illegal weapons.
