KIKWAAYA, Kakumiro District – The NRM National Vice Chairperson for the Western Region, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, has called on Ugandans to embrace hard work, modern agriculture, and government wealth-creation programmes as the surest path to defeating poverty and improving household incomes.
Eng. Jonard made the remarks while officiating as Chief Guest at the thanksgiving ceremony of Hon. Fred Byamukama, who was recently elected unopposed as Member of Parliament for Bugangaizi West and appointed Minister of Works and Transport.

He congratulated Hon. Byamukama on earning the confidence of the people of Bugangaizi West and the trust of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, describing the achievements as a testament to dedicated service and strong leadership.
Addressing thousands of residents gathered at Kikwaaya, Eng. Jonard commended the people of Bugangaizi West for their continued support of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and for embracing the government’s Four-Acre Model. He noted that modern commercial agriculture remains one of the most effective strategies for creating wealth, increasing household incomes, and transforming rural communities.

The minister also encouraged beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) to invest the funds in productive enterprises capable of generating sustainable incomes. He emphasized that the government, under President Museveni’s leadership, has continued to increase funding for the programme to ensure more Ugandans benefit from wealth-creation initiatives.
Beyond agriculture, Eng. Jonard pledged to support the development of sports in Kakumiro District by helping local teams grow and compete at higher levels. He further committed to promoting science, technology, and innovation-driven solutions that will improve livelihoods, create employment opportunities, and accelerate socio-economic transformation across the district.

The thanksgiving ceremony attracted thousands of residents from Kakumiro and neighbouring districts. The event was attended by ministers from the Bunyoro Sub-region, Members of Parliament, LC5 chairpersons, district leaders, religious leaders, and other dignitaries, who joined in celebrating Hon. Fred Byamukama’s unopposed victory while calling for unity, hard work, and continued development.
