Kampala — Uganda has officially stepped in to host the 2025 East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games, scheduled to take place from December 5th to 17th, following Burundi’s withdrawal as host.
The development was announced by Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, Chairperson of the Parliament Sports Club, during a press briefing held on Monday, October 6, at Parliament.
Burundi, which had initially been slated to host the annual regional sporting event, informed the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) of its inability to convene the games, citing preparations for national elections around the same period.
Basalirwa confirmed that Uganda has accepted the responsibility and that preparations are already underway to ensure the successful hosting of the multi-sport event, which brings together legislators and staff from the national parliaments of all EAC member states.
He noted that the games are a key platform for promoting regional integration, friendship, and unity among lawmakers, in addition to encouraging fitness and sportsmanship.
The 2025 edition will see participants compete in various disciplines, including football, netball, athletics, volleyball, and darts, among others.
Uganda last hosted the EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games in 2019, an edition that was praised for its organization and hospitality.
