President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni concluded a two-district tour across the Ankole sub-region on a powerful note, addressing thousands of supporters who gathered in Mitooma District and later in Rubirizi District. The President, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, used the rallies to reinforce the message of disciplined wealth creation, household empowerment, and continued national stability.
The tour began in Mitooma District, where Kirambi Ruhinda Market Grounds was packed to capacity. Residents from across Mitooma turned up in impressive numbers, painting the entire area yellow as they welcomed the NRM Presidential Flag Bearer. President Museveni was officially received by top NRM leaders, including the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Rt. Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, alongside other senior government officials and CEC members.
Addressing the gathering in Mitooma, the President underlined the government’s commitment to supporting large-scale farmers through an upcoming fertiliser fund designed to boost production and improve household incomes. He reminded families that development begins within the home and urged them to take full advantage of government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga. He also addressed key local concerns, announcing that the Ishaka–Kashenshero road will be extended to Rukungiri. In response to reports of wild animals destroying crops, he directed the Uganda Wildlife Authority to install an electric fence around Imaramagambo Forest to safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.
From Mitooma, the President proceeded to Rubirizi District for the final rally of the tour at Kyanzaza Playground. The turnout was equally overwhelming, with crowds filling the venue long before the event began. He was again welcomed by Rt. Hon. Tayebwa, Rt. Maj. Gen. Otafiire, and other top NRM leaders. The atmosphere reflected unity, clarity, and strong support for the President’s leadership.
In Rubirizi, President Museveni revisited the guiding principle of “Kazaare, okatung’ente norutookye,” emphasising steady, disciplined effort as the foundation of prosperity. He highlighted the visible transformation across Ankole — improved road networks, expanded electricity distribution, and better access to health and education services. He shared the story of a Rubirizi resident who, despite living by a tarmac road for 65 years, only began her journey into enterprise after receiving support through the PDM. He noted that this was an example of how government programmes can uplift ordinary households when embraced fully.
The rallies were also vibrant with entertainment. Several artists, including Fik Gaza, Eddy Kenzo, Lil Pazo, and Jose Chameleone, thrilled the crowds throughout the events, adding energy and excitement to the day’s programme.
Across both districts, leaders echoed their appreciation for the people’s unwavering support. Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa thanked the residents of Mitooma and Rubirizi for turning up in large numbers, recognising their unity and commitment to the progress the NRM government has championed. Other dignitaries expressed similar gratitude, commending the discipline and enthusiasm displayed by the people of Ankole.
As the President wrapped up the tour, he encouraged the region to continue absorbing and putting into practice the message he has consistently delivered — wealth creation, stability, discipline, and long-term transformation. He urged households that have not yet joined government development programmes to do so, reaffirming that these initiatives are key to achieving sustainable incomes and improved livelihoods.
With the Ankole tour now complete, the President and his team prepare to head to the Rwenzori Region next. The message remains clear: unity, hard work, and strategic use of government programmes are central to individual and national progress.
The overwhelming turnout in both Mitooma and Rubirizi demonstrated a shared belief in continued development and a collective commitment to protecting the gains already achieved.
