President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Flavian Zeija as the new Chief Justice of the Republic of Uganda.
The appointment was made in accordance with Article 142(1) of the 1995 Constitution, following advice from the Judicial Service Commission. Justice Zeija’s nomination was subsequently submitted to Parliament, which approved it in line with constitutional requirements.
Justice Zeija succeeds His Lordship Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, who has officially retired upon attaining the age of 70, bringing to a close a distinguished judicial career spanning more than four decades.
Justice Zeija takes over the country’s top judicial office at a time when the Judiciary continues to play a central role in upholding the rule of law, constitutionalism, and access to justice. His appointment marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s judicial leadership.
The President’s decision underscores the constitutional process governing judicial appointments and reaffirms the independence of the Judiciary as provided for under the law.
Justice Flavian Zeija brings to the office extensive experience in judicial service and legal administration, having served in various capacities within the Judiciary prior to his elevation to Chief Justice.
