The National Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for Western Region, Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, has urged all political aspirants in Ntungamo District to embrace unity, forgiveness, and visionary leadership as the party prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Asiimwe made the call on Wednesday during a harmonization and reconciliation meeting held at the Ntungamo District headquarters. The meeting brought together NRM flag bearers, party structures, NRM-leaning independent candidates, and security officials to address conflicts that arose from the recently concluded party primaries.

In his remarks, Asiimwe emphasized the importance of unity and long-term service-minded leadership, warning against selfish motives in politics.
“We must uphold unity to strengthen the party’s stronghold. Those who join politics for selfish reasons instead of serving the people with vision and accountability do a disservice to the NRM and to Uganda,” he said.
He further condemned acts of violence and indiscipline that marred the primaries, including reports of some registrars being assaulted.“
We cannot tolerate violence among our members. Beating registrars or using abusive language against fellow party members, especially through the media, tarnishes the image of our great movement,” Asiimwe cautioned.

The NRM Vice Chairperson also reminded leaders of their obligation to mobilize grassroots support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming elections.
“Let us all do whatever it takes to rally support for President Museveni and our flag bearers. Unity is our winning weapon,” he urged.
Yonah Musinguzi, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Ntungamo Municipality and NRM District Vice Chairperson, praised Asiimwe for initiating the dialogue, saying it came at a critical time for healing and strengthening party cohesion.
“This initiative is timely and commendable. Bringing together all candidates to reconcile and harmonize ensures we head into 2026 as one united NRM family,” Musinguzi said.
During the meeting, several independent candidates confessed their commitment to support President Museveni, while others pledged to withdraw from the race and back the official NRM flag bearers in the spirit of unity.
In her closing remarks, Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Miriam Mugisha Kageiga urged members to take the meeting’s message seriously.
“Let us embrace reconciliation, forgive one another, and work together to ensure unity in our party,” she said.
The meeting concluded with renewed calls for teamwork, reconciliation, and collective commitment to securing the NRM’s dominance in Ntungamo and the entire Western region.
