The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is gaining significant momentum in Western Uganda as more independent candidates withdraw from various political races to rally behind official party flag bearers. This development follows intensified harmonization efforts led by the NRM National Vice Chairperson for Western Region, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe.
Speaking to the media last evening at his home, Eng. Asiimwe revealed that the party’s strategic goal is to ensure that as many NRM-leaning independents as possible step down before the elections. He noted that this will allow the party to shift focus toward mobilizing overwhelming support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to secure a decisive victory.
He also emphasized that the Ekyoto program—his ongoing community engagement initiative—will continue and is set to be expanded to all parts of Western Uganda to further consolidate party support.
In the latest development, Hon. Byenkya Joshua Omumwooli has withdrawn from the Hoima City mayoral race in favor of the NRM flag bearer, Brian Kaboyo. The announcement was made during a harmonization meeting at Eng. Asiimwe’s residence.
Joshua stated that as a committed NRM cadre and pillar, he chose to step aside freely in response to the President’s call for unity within the party. He reaffirmed his loyalty and desire to see the NRM remain strong ahead of the upcoming elections.
Eng. Asiimwe commended Joshua for the patriotic decision, noting that his continued participation in the race could have divided support and weakened NRM parliamentary candidates in Hoima City. He praised Joshua’s loyalty and described the move as a significant boost to the party’s cohesion in the region.
Eng. Asiimwe further confirmed that meetings with other independent candidates are ongoing as the party works to ensure a united front and a stronger showing in the upcoming polls.
