The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), through its Socio-Economic Investment (SEI) programme and in partnership with Hoima City, has launched the construction of the 7.5-kilometre Nyamasoga–Katooke marram road in Buseruka Sub-County, Hoima District.
The new road will connect Kayera and Katooke villages, home to more than 6,500 residents across over 600 households, enhancing mobility and supporting trade within the area.
The initiative aims to improve local infrastructure, stimulate economic growth, and facilitate daily activities along the EACOP route. Once completed, the Nyamasoga–Katooke Road will link directly to the Kaiso–Tonya Highway, easing movement between key trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka, and improving access to schools, health facilities, and local markets.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, EACOP Deputy Managing Director, Mr. JB Habumugisha, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to inclusive community development:
“EACOP remains committed to ensuring that the communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This road project demonstrates our dedication to supporting local development priorities in partnership with government authorities.”
Hoima RDC, Mr. Rodgers Mbabazi, who presided over the event, appreciated EACOP’s continued investment in local infrastructure, noting that improved roads translate to better opportunities and an enhanced quality of life for residents.

The project, requested by Hoima District leadership to improve transport and accessibility, addresses a long-standing challenge, as the road had previously been in poor condition and often impassable. The rehabilitation is expected to open new economic opportunities for local residents.
The commissioning ceremony at Katooke Trading Centre was attended by the area Member of Parliament, local councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer, and members of the community.
