Kasese and Bunyangabu Districts in the Rwenzori region came alive today as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held his first series of NRM rallies ahead of the 2026–2031 term bid. The afternoon began at Nyakasanga Playground in Kasese, where thousands of residents gathered, and later moved to Kibiito Secondary School grounds in Bunyangabu in the evening.
In Kasese, the President was welcomed by the 2nd National Vice Chairperson Western Region CEC, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, alongside distinguished delegates including Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of Parliament; Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, 2nd Female National Vice Chairperson; Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, Party Secretary General; and other senior NRM leaders. He highlighted development programs such as the Parish Development Model and the Four-Acre Model, urging households to increase productivity, improve food security, and enhance livelihoods. He commended communities already benefiting from these initiatives and assured residents that pending projects, including the upgrade of Kasese Airport, Shs 340 million for Bwera Secondary School, and the construction of the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu palace, remain top priorities.

NRM leaders, including District Chairperson James Mbahimba, also raised concerns about the resettlement of internally displaced persons at Muhokya camp and ongoing land conflicts in Rwehingo, Bigando, and Nkoko. President Museveni responded, assuring that these issues would be addressed and updating attendees on the Standard Gauge Railway project, with plans to extend the Malaba–Kampala line to Kasese underway.
The Kasese rally was energized by performances from Fik Gaza, Eddy Kendo, Lil Pazo, and Chameleon, creating a lively atmosphere as the community celebrated unity and progress.
In Bunyangabu, the President was again welcomed by Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe and other top NRM officials at Kibiito Secondary School grounds. He praised Uganda’s peace and stability over the past 40 years, highlighting how it has allowed citizens to live safely, pursue education, and develop businesses while infrastructure, healthcare, and youth empowerment initiatives continue to expand. He also celebrated local success stories, including Kayesu Immaculate, who trained at the Kyenjojo Presidential Skilling Hub and now employs four young people, inspiring others in the community.
President Museveni encouraged continued support for all NRM flag bearers and emphasized that maintaining these gains requires active engagement from citizens. Both rallies demonstrated the energy, unity, and commitment of the people in Kasese and Bunyangabu to national development and the vision of a higher middle-income Uganda.
