The Uganda National Drug Authority (NDA) has arrested Nsamba Swamad, an Assistant Nursing Officer at Kassanda Health Centre IV, for illegally possessing large quantities of government medicines.
According to the NDA, a special enforcement operation uncovered more than 100,000 doses of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), 15,000 doses of Aspirin, and 400 HIV testing kits in his possession. All the medicines were clearly labelled “Government of Uganda – Not for Sale.”

Investigators revealed that the suspect had hidden the assorted medicines in a pit latrine at a private clinic where he reportedly works part-time in Bukuya Trading Centre.
Authorities believe the medicines were diverted from government health facilities and intended for illegal sale or distribution.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the NDA to crack down on theft and illegal diversion of government medical supplies, which are meant to be provided free of charge to patients in public health facilities across the country.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities work to determine the source of the stolen medicines and whether other individuals may be involved.
