Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), on Wednesday hosted Charlene Ruto, daughter of Kenyan President William Ruto, during a courtesy visit at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe.
The meeting, held at the SFC base, underscored the growing engagement between influential figures from Uganda and Kenya. Gen Kainerugaba warmly received Ms. Ruto and her delegation, reflecting the longstanding ties between the two neighbouring nations.

Ms. Ruto was accompanied by a delegation that included Mr. George Nkya, Honorary Consul of Morocco; Mr. Festus Orina; Ms. Varsheeni Ragupathy; and Hon. Jane Frances Acilo. She expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to her and her team during the visit.
The courtesy call comes shortly after Gen Kainerugaba announced on his official X (formerly Twitter) account his intention to visit President Ruto in Kenya in the near future — a move widely interpreted as reinforcing diplomatic goodwill and regional cooperation.
The engagement highlights the multifaceted relationship between Uganda and Kenya, two key members of the East African Community (EAC). Beyond sharing a common border, the two countries are bound by deep cultural, linguistic, and historical ties that continue to strengthen people-to-people connections.
On the economic front, Nairobi and Kampala maintain a robust partnership. Bilateral trade between the two nations surpassed USD 1.5 billion in 2025, underscoring Kenya’s position as one of Uganda’s most significant trading partners.

Kenya also remains strategically vital to landlocked Uganda, serving as its primary gateway to global markets through the Port of Mombasa, where the majority of Uganda’s imports and exports are routed.
This strategic interdependence makes cordial relations between leaders and institutions — including the military establishments of both countries — essential for sustaining regional stability, economic growth, and shared prosperity within East Africa.
