The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced a new partnership with the U.S. Mission Kampala as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening football diplomacy and aligns with the United States’ upcoming 250th Independence anniversary, to be celebrated on 4th July 2026.
Officials say the partnership is expected to reinforce Uganda–U.S. strategic relations through mutual development initiatives. Key focus areas will include technical capacity building, cultural exchange programs, and efforts geared toward sustainable football development in Uganda.
A FUFA delegation led by Executive Committee Member Ronnie Kalema, Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson, and Competitions Director Hajati Aisha Nalule met with officials from the U.S. Mission Kampala to deepen the discussions. The talks were held with the Mission’s Education and Culture Attaché, Lana Surface, alongside other representatives, who expressed enthusiasm about expanding cooperation in sports and youth development.
FUFA noted that the collaboration will open new avenues for innovation in coaching, competitions, and grassroots football, while fostering stronger ties between Ugandan and American institutions.
