Buganda Kingdom has announced that it raised UGX 1.95 billion through the Luwalo Lwaffe initiative between January and December 31, 2025, marking a significant boost in public support for the Kingdom’s development agenda.
The announcement was made at Bulange, Mengo, during the presentation of the Kingdom’s annual financial report by the Second Deputy Katikkiro and Kingdom Treasurer, Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa.
According to Owek. Nsibirwa, the funds mobilised will be directed toward several priority projects across the Kingdom. These include the reconstruction of the Kasubi Royal Tombs, the establishment of nursery schools in all counties, the upgrading of medical equipment at Muteesa II Hospital, and the expansion of the Mwanyi Terimba coffee programme, which aims to improve household incomes through commercial coffee farming.
He noted that collections from Luwalo Lwaffe increased by 16 percent compared to 2024, a rise the Kingdom attributes to growing public confidence and participation in Buganda’s development initiatives.
“The increase reflects the commitment and trust of the people of Buganda in supporting programs that preserve our cultural heritage while improving social services and economic livelihoods,” Nsibirwa said.
The Luwalo Lwaffe initiative is a voluntary contribution scheme that mobilises resources from subjects and well-wishers to fund strategic projects of the Kingdom. Over the years, it has become a key pillar in financing education, health, culture, and agricultural initiatives.
Buganda Kingdom leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in the use of the funds, assuring contributors that the resources will be utilised strictly for their intended purposes.
The Kingdom also called upon its subjects to continue supporting Luwalo Lwaffe, emphasizing that sustained contributions are vital for the successful implementation of long-term development and cultural preservation projects.
