KAMPALA, Uganda — The Afro-Arab Youth Congress 2025 officially opened today at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, marking the start of a four-day gathering aimed at strengthening youth-driven partnerships between Africa and the Arab world. The congress, running from October 7 to 10, is being held under the theme, “Amplifying Youth Voices for Peace, Unity and Prosperity.”
Vice President Jessica Alupo presided over the opening ceremony on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. In her keynote address, she underscored the role of young people as key agents of transformation, urging them to take a proactive stance in promoting peace, innovation, and inclusive development across both regions.
“This congress is more than just a meeting—it is a commitment to empowering youth to lead the next chapter of Afro-Arab cooperation,” Alupo said. “Our future depends on the ideas, energy, and leadership of young people working together for a common cause.”
The 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Rukia Nakadama, the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, and the Ambassador of Rwanda to Uganda, H.E. Col. Joseph Rutabana, also graced the opening ceremony, reflecting the strong regional support for the congress and its objectives.
The Afro-Arab Youth Congress brings together over 1,000 delegates, including youth ministers, policymakers, development partners, and innovators from more than 40 countries. The forum is organized by the Afro-Arab Youth Council in partnership with the Government of Uganda and various regional bodies.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in plenary sessions and workshops on issues such as climate resilience, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and peacebuilding. An innovation expo will also showcase youth-led solutions designed to tackle economic and social challenges within communities.
According to the organizers, the congress aims to create lasting frameworks for cooperation and to promote a unified vision of prosperity shared by both Africa and the Arab world. The discussions are expected to culminate in a declaration outlining joint commitments on youth empowerment and sustainable development.
The event is part of Uganda’s broader efforts to position itself as a hub for continental and inter-regional dialogue, reaffirming the country’s dedication to fostering collaboration among nations. The congress will conclude on October 10 with the adoption of resolutions guiding future youth engagement between the two regions.
