A man arrested in connection with the deadly daycare attack in Kampala has taken a major step toward facing trial, after his case file was formally submitted to prosecutors.
The suspect, identified as Christopher Okello Onyum (39), is expected to be charged with multiple counts of murder following the tragic killing of four toddlers at a daycare center in Ggaba on April 2, 2026.
The Attack
According to authorities, the suspect allegedly gained access to the daycare by posing as a parent and paying admission fees. He is then accused of carrying out a brutal attack that left four young children dead, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Police officers quickly responded to the scene and arrested the suspect. Reports indicate that officers had to intervene to protect him from an angry crowd that had gathered following the incident.
Legal Process Underway
The submission of the case file to prosecutors marks a critical step in Uganda’s criminal justice process. Prosecutors will review the evidence before formally charging the suspect and presenting the case in court.
If charged as expected, Onyum could face serious penalties under Ugandan law, including the possibility of life imprisonment or other severe sentences if convicted.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities say investigations are still ongoing, with the motive behind the attack yet to be established. Police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of the case.
Community in Mourning
The killings have deeply affected families and residents in Ggaba and across Kampala, raising concerns about safety in childcare facilities. Leaders and community members have called for increased security measures to protect children and prevent similar tragedies.
